Queens, NY – Atlantis Cricket Club
– NY (ACC) refused to sit on its laurels and stay idle last Sunday at Idlewild Park Cricket Ground, taking out Queens United Sports Club (QUSC) by six wickets in the process.

Coming off of its 2022 season opener win against Westbury Cricket Club at Westbury, the boys in green trotted over to Idlewild to play host to Queens United in a much-anticipated match-up.

QUSC won the toss and elected to bat, opening with Patrick Dewar and overseas player Andre Davis. The duo did not cause ACC’s opening bowlers, skipper Greg Robinson and overseas player Ronaldo Ali Mohamed much trouble. ACC got an early breakthrough with the dismissals of Dewar, 0, and Naveer Ramsarran, 11, inside the first six overs with the score on 30. Andrew Davis, 4, would be the next to depart, with QUSC adding only two runs to their total.

The next three wickets, Marinaro Dixon, 0, Akeem Dewar, 9, and Jayden Higgins, 4, saw the QUSC total creep up to 53 for 6 in the 11th over. The battling regular Idlewild residents would advance their score to 100 with the loss of their seventh wicket in the 26th over that of overseas player Kennel Hurd exiting, bowled by his Atlantis overseas counterpart Winston Forrester for 19.

The remaining three QUSC wickets would fall for the addition of only 15 runs, closing out the inning at 115 all out in 32.2 overs.

The six Atlantis bowlers used were rewarded with either one or two wickets each. Demetrius Adams grabbed 2 for 9 off his 4.3 overs; skipper Gregory Robinson enjoyed figures of 4-0-12-2; overseas player Winston Forrester had 2 for 15 off his 6 overs, and Prashanth Nair had 2 for 17 off his 8 overs. The remaining two wickets fell to Seth Maughn, 1 for 25, and Ronaldo Ali Mohamed, 1 for 33.

It was now QUSC’s turn to defend the 115 posted. In the sixth over, they would grab their first wicket, Francis Mendonca, 10. Akeel Hoyte, 8, would be the next to go eight overs later with the score on 55. With ACC needing just 61 for the win in the remaining 25 overs saw Winston Forrester, 9, fall victim to Ansaar Yasim in the 19th over.

ACC overseas player Giovanni Letren, 12, would be ACC’s fourth and final wicket to fall with the score at 91 in the 22nd over. Still at the crease after opening the ACC account was vice skipper Randall Wilson. Garfield DeRoche joined him with ACC in sniffing distance of their second “W” for the young 2022 season. The duo would eventually bring it home for ACC in the 27th over, with Wilson not out with a patient 63 (3x4s) and DeRoche, 9. QUSC conceded just five extras.

Bowling for QUSC: Spinner Ansaar Yasim had figures of 7-0-35-2. The other two scalps were taken by Rahi Bhatia, 1 for 27, and Damion Jacobs, 1 for 28.

On Sunday, June 5th, Atlantis takes on Sheffield at 80th Street and Seaview Avenue, while QUSC host Villagers Sports Club at Idlewild Cricket Park. Both matches start at 12:00 o’clock.
