EACA 40-Overs Tournament | Scorecard Below
Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Club took on Falcons Cricket Club at the beautiful 108th Street and Seaview Avenue Ground in Brooklyn on June 29th. MMZ skipper Azurdeen Mohammed won the toss and decided to bat. The skipper and Glen Meyer as usual walked to the middle to face the leathers.
For the Falcons the task was given to Rajendra Khan and Koomal Shamshundar to open the bowling. Khan bowled his lone over for 13 and was immediately replaced by Mohammed Zaied. Meyer look sound after hitting a crisp square cut for four but was undone by a slower ball and was out caught off Zaied. Mohammed was joined by former USA under-19 player Sumon Bari and the pair batted sweetly, Andy was stroking the ball nicely while Bari was playing himself back to form. Mohammed look set for a huge score as he played a flick for six to bring up his fifty. The stylish Bari hitting the ball sweetly across the quick outfield raced in the thirties, after hitting consecutive boundaries he played across one off Hemnauth and was bowled for a well-played 38.
Zaaid Majeed came in at number four, with the absent of Saud Hossaun who took a day off due to the first day fasting. Majeed did not last long as he was undone by a direct hit for six. Mohammed was joined by the attacking Shines Beepat who didn’t waste any time hitting the ball all over the park. Mohammed in the mean time looking to get his century for the season was playing with cautions and timing ball sweetly, he got one that pitch wide and went for an expanding drive and was caught for a well-played 80. Shines was joined by Andre Persaud and the pair put on a valuable 49 runs partnership before Persaud went via the run out route. Beepat played well for 34 before he was caught at the boundary trying to go for the maximum for the third time. The rest of the batsmen saw the MMZ reach 222 in the 39 overs.
Falcons started off losing their first wicket when Imran Khan well caught by Gangaram Lochan off the swing of Rayhanul Islam for a duck. That brings in the experience Mahendra Harripersaud to join the talented youth player out of Guyana Akshay Homraj. The pair batted well to see Falcons get to 100 in the 22 over. Homchand was batting with pure class until he got a delivery from Zaaid Majeed to be well caught by Beepat for 49 valuable runs. Jagdat Hardeen came in his usual busy manner and played a quick fire 21 before he was brilliantly caught by Andy Mohammed off the bowling of Shines Beepat.
That brought to the crease the powerful Zulfikar “Zulie” Ali. Islam replaces Majeed from the Seaview Avenue end and immediately dismissed Ali who again was well caught by Andy Mohammed at short midwicket. As Falcons got closer to their target, Harripersaud stroke his way to a good fifty. Falcons hope heavily depend on Harripersaud to stay until the end. Rohan Permaul bowling his left arm medium kept things tight at the Belt Parkway end. With 8 overs remaining and 60 runs to get it was anyone’s game. The skipper brought himself back from the Seaview Avenue end and the experienced hands of Zaaid Majeed from the other end. Majeed cleaned up Mohammed Zaied and Shamshundar for 22 and 5 respectively finishing a fine spall. With 2 overs remaining and 24 runs to get it was still anyone’s game with Harripersaud batting on 77, the penultimate over was given to Shines Beepat. Harripersaud was run out from a brilliant piece of fielding by Islam. Beepat was taken for 12 in the 39 over. It was all left to the skipper Azurdeen Mohammed to bowled the last over, he was hit for four and a couple singles then it was all over, he cleaned up the last three batsmen for all ducks, MMZ CC won the nail biter by 4 runs.
