Bengals Warriors win BCANA T-10 2022 INTENSITY Tournament

Bengals Warriors

The Bangladeshi Cricketers Alliance of North America (BCANA) 2022 season got off to a flying start after a riveting final of the BCANA T-10 INTENSITY. The ever-impressive Bengals Warriors snatched the T-10 title away from an admirable Thunder Hawks. The spectators were in for a treat last Saturday afternoon at Kissena Park when they witnessed the game’s shortest version at its finest shape and form.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Thunder Hawks were in early trouble when they lost half of their side, including the tournament’s top scorer Minhajul Islam Rafe for 0, while they were just over a run-a-ball at the halfway stage of their inning. A blistering 34(11) partnership between Oliure Rahman and Sheikh Hussain Shahel gave the team the spark needed to pull them out of the hole. A roaring dugout cheered after the ten overs as the Thunder Hawks inning finished on a very competitive 104/9.

NY thunder Hawks captain Ezaz Ahamed received the runners-up trophy and prize money from Yasifur Rahman (CEO, BeTech Academy), Herbert Regnier (BACDYS) and Nafiz Chowdhury (BACDYS). Oliure Rahman and Sheikh Hussain Shahel finished on 32(8) and 23(11). Warriors’ Rahat Rahman Khan Shourab went about his business to stop the run flow with enviable figures of 2.0-0-2-3. In response, the Warriors’ batters were kept in check and struggled to initiate a momentum as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. The task seemed rather ominous when the side lost six wickets while requiring a daunting 49 off the last three overs and then 18 off the last over when the anchoring Shawn Ahmed fell for an impactful 38(15). Skipper Rahi Ahmed* was the last glimpse of hope as the Warriors camp showed no sign of worry in the final over even after the first two deliveries went for dots.

A calm and composed Rahi Ahmed* then took control of things to wonderfully carve the required 18 runs off the remaining four deliveries, which consisted of hitting two sixes off the last two balls. In what was arguably the over of the tournament, the crowd witnessed a fascinating finish to a game where the Thunder Hawks showed great sportsmanship to a very close boundary call in the penultimate delivery. It turned out to be decisive, as the boundary fielder slipped most dramatically while fielding the last ball to yield a six and ensure a thrilling Warriors win.
