Canada To Host Argentina, Bermuda And USA For ICC U19 Americas Qualifier
The final leg of the journey towards the Sri Lanka 2024 cricket event commences this Friday, as four formidable teams gear up for a week of intense rivalry in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier.
Set against the backdrop of Toronto, Canada, the stage is set for a gripping spectacle. The host nation, along with Argentina, Bermuda, and the USA, are all vying to secure the coveted 16th and last spot in the esteemed global showcase – the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024, where the most talented young cricketers from around the world will take center stage.
From the 11th to the 18th of August, a total of 12 matches will unfold across two historic venues within the city. The Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club, established back in 1827 and one of the nation’s oldest cricket clubs, will witness the battles alongside the Maple Leaf Cricket Club.
The hosts boast an impressive track record in this competition, having emerged victorious in all of the previous five U19 Qualifier tournaments. They aim to replicate their success as they kick off their journey against Argentina. On the same day, the USA will clash with Bermuda in another exhilarating encounter.
With only a single qualification spot available, the round-robin format will determine which team tops the table and earns a coveted berth in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. The event returns to Sri Lanka for the first time since 2006, promising an exciting reunion with the nation’s cricketing legacy.
The triumphant team from this qualifier will join the ranks of other regional champions in the pathway. Alongside Nepal (Asia), New Zealand (EAP), Namibia (Africa), and the victor of the Europe Qualifier, which concludes on Saturday, they will vie for glory.
This collective of teams will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the 11 nations that earned automatic qualification due to their top standings as Full Member nations in the previous 2022 event. Notably, among these is the defending champion, India.
