All the captains of the 10 teams that will participate in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers spoke at a press conference at the Ruposhi Bangla Hotel. The following are excerpts of what they each had to say:

Doris Francis (USA): We have come here to play well. We should not be taken lightly. We put in the hard work and hope it shows out there.

Salma Khatun (Bangladesh): We are well prepared and hope to bring in a positive result. We know we have tremendous support from our people and we hope to pay them back with a good result.

Sana Mir (Pakistan): We are very happy to be here. The last time we came here the crowd was excellent. We hope to get good support from the people here as we know the people of Bangladesh are very similar to the people of Pakistan.

Shanel Daley (vice-captain, West Indies): We are not taking anyone lightly and are looking to play it match by match.

Isobel Joyce (Ireland): We’ve been training hard and are prepared to do well in this tournament.

Sharne Mayers (Zimbabwe): Our first job is to get out there and perform and show the boys that we are coming up as well.

Helmien Rambaldo (The Netherlands): We obviously love the sport (cricket) and even though many in the team have other professions we make time for it and do the extra hours.

Dilani Manodara (Sri Lanka): We have a good team in hand. We have three all-rounders in it and we hope to do well.

Ema Kuribayashi (Japan): It’s nice to see all the hype surrounding the tournament.

Mignon du Preez (South Africa): We know we are one of the favourites of this tournament. We are ranked fifth.
