Crafty Trinson Carmichael Helps Liberty SC To Opening Day Win

On a day when batting was not a trivial task Trinson Carmichael dug in and crafted an inning of character to ensure the GMA Enterprise and Royal Empress Catering Hall sponsored Liberty Sports Club (LSC) post a challenging 203 runs for 9 wickets. That total would prove 28 runs too much for the opposition, Everest/ACS, when #TheBlueNation boys took the field in defense.  The win ensured that LSC started the 2015 Eastern American Cricket Association, Cricket Zone 40-Over competition on a winning note.

Liberty SC won the toss and elected to bat on what appeared to be favorable batting conditions. Early signs of uneven bounce on the Lido Beach wicket quickly changed that though when Francis Mendonca and Romero Deane took first strike. Deane who has been in decent form in the pre-season, scoring one century and 2 half-centuries, still managed to strike it cleanly, however.

Charlton Senior got one to kick off a good length and brush Mendonca’s glove to in the third over to secure E/ACS’s first scalp. Deane continued to pick off the boundaries in his knock of 39. The imposing left-hander struck four fours and launched two sixes before he was run out in the 10th over. Christopher Van Tull had a quick cameo of 16 before he became Senior’s second scalp.

Carmichael joined the prolific Sudesh Dhaniram at the crease. The pair consolidated the score to 93 in the 20th over before Dhaniram mistimed a drive. Terrence Madramoottoo then combined with Carmichael to share a responsible 53 runs partnership for the 5th wicket. Madramootoo, a natural striker of the ball, adjusted his game to complement Carmichael as the pair expertly worked the ball around the park in the partnership.

Striking five boundaries in his knock, Carmichael saw his side to the 37th after joining the inning in the 11th over.  Rusty Kirton (9), Danesh Deonarain (9*), Hemendra Ramdihal (5) and Dilly Khilawan (3*) chipped in to see Liberty SC to 203 for 9 after 40 overs.  Zamin Amin finished with 3 for 25 off 3 overs while Andy Mohamed 2 for 45, Saheed Amin 1 for 25 and Senior 2 for 28 were the bowlers among the wickets for E/ACS.

Jay Singh started off the proceedings for Liberty SC and immediately found success when he knocked out Glen Meyers’ off stump in the 3rd over.  Dhaniram handling the 2nd new ball at the other end kept things tight. Carmichael, replacing Singh, got rid of Shafique Shah (24) who provided some resistance. The following over Dhaniram bowled Andy Mohamed (20) to leave E/ACS at 60 for 3 at the 1st 15 over water break.

Two overs after the break Dhaniram would strike again to finish up with figures of 2 for 20 off his 8 overs.  USA national player, Karan Ganesh, came in and made his presence felt. The right-hander struck 7 fours and 2 sixes in his knock of 59 which wasn’t without some good fortune complements of LSC fieldsmen. Ganesh found little support at the other end, however, as the required run rate kept on rising. Kirton would strike the crucial blow after being reintroduced into the attack. He bowl Ganesh and essentially seal the victory for LSC in the 35th over.

In addition to Dhaniram’s bowling exploit, Carmichael  2 for 24, Ramdihal 2 for 26, Singh 1 for 21, Kirton 1 for 39,  Madramootoo 1 for 40 rounded out #TheBlueNation’s bowling figures when ACS was all out for 175 in the 38th over.
