Prolific New York Cricket Region Under-19 all-rounder Robin Das has been recalled to join the NYR U-19 players in preparation for the 2010 USACA Junior Nationals scheduled for November 12th. – 14th. to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Das is a former captain of 2009 PSAL Cricket Champions Newcomers HS, and a current member of Meten Meer Zorg CC.
Robin Das is one of five PSAL cricketers that have scored a century in the PSAL Twenty/20 competition thus far. He’s was also very productive this year for MMZ in which he took 5 for 8 against Long Island United, and made 64 not out against East Bank CC during the EACA 40-over quarter-finals. The young middle-order batsman hails from Bangladesh and his captain Ajaz Asgarally has said that Robin is nick named after India’s captain “MS Dhoni”, because of his unique batting style.
Robin Das, Rasheem James, Regis Burton, Cameron Mirza, and Prashanth Nair were all not available to be considered for the 2010 USACA Eastern Conference U-19 Tournament due to school, work, etc… commitments. Robin is one of the best young cricketers that has come through the PSAL cricket program, but is engaged in a vigorous college workload, and a strenuous work schedule.
As many other young people, Das is taking the advantage of pursuing a college degree, which is fully supported by coach Ricky Kissoon.
Robin is currently a sophomore at St. John’s University where he’s majoring in Mathematical Physic. Kissoon stated “As a Chemistry graduate, I fully understand the vigorous workload required by a student to excel in this area of studies”. “As a coach and an educator I tried utmost to instill moral values, and discipline, but fully understand the challenges encountered by the young cricket athletes in New York, and I truly commend all the young men that have shown the dedication to the sport of cricket, while continuing to pursue a college education, and at the same time make ends meet”.
