It was refreshing to witness current and former USA nationals such as Akeem Dodson, Romeno Deane, Chris Singh, and young fifteen year-old Randall Wilson in action at Baisley South Cricket Ground, but it was the combination of Yogindra Dass and Troy Mars that stole the show amongst the stars. The New York Cricket Academy batted first and posted a massive total of 200/6 after 20 overs.
Openers from John Adams HS Troy Mars and Randall Wilson entertained the crowd with some lovely shots. The two would go on to build 82-runs partnership after nine overs before Wilson (27) was brilliantly caught off the bowling of Waqas Shah. Keith Eddie would join the young talented Mars, but S. Hussain would deceive him with a slower ball. Eddie would depart without troubling the score, but skipper Carmichael would steady the ship for the Academy boys.
Carmichael and Mars would go on to build another huge partnership before Mars was caught for a well played 68 runs. Former NYCR U19 fast bowler Hugo D’oliveira strolled to the wicket with less than five overs remaining and took the attack to the Brooklyn Knights bowlers. Carmichael would finish with 40, and D’oliveira was left unbeaten on 21. A total of 200 may seem a lot, but if the batting lineup reads Akeem Dodson, Romeno Deane, Abdullah Syed, Umar, and Waqas Shah then the opponent should be very worried.
Brooklyn Knights was off to a flying start with Umar playing some aggressive shots at the expensive of D’oliveira and young Dass, but Hugo would get the best out of the action after he bowled Dodson behind his back. Dass continues to prove why he’s one of the better young left-arm swing bowlers in the New York Cricket Region after returning match figures of 4-0-24-5. This is the young man’s second five-wicket haul thus far in the 2011 cricket season.
