EACA T20 Blitz
Skipper Danesh Deonarain stroked a well composed half century while Hemchandarbose Persaud blazed 42 to help Liberty Sports Club amass 189 for 7 off 20 overs when they batted first against New York Centurions in their Eastern American Cricket Association T20 Blitz fixture. Terrence Madramootoo then returned to pick up 3 wickets for 9 runs to limit the chase to only 123.
Deonarain won the toss and elected to bat on a well-manicured Bay Park under bright sunshine. Liberty lost opener Andy Harricharran early but staged a decent recovery with Deonarain joining Dilly Khilawan at the crease. The score moved along and LSC would lose Khilawan, Madramootoo and Imtiaz Hassan on the way to 76 for 4 after 12 overs. Needing to up the scoring rate Deonarain stepped up the tempo as he started to look to get more boundaries.
Altaf Habibulla played a crucial role in the 30 runs partnership in rotating the strike and pushing to convert the extra run between the wickets. Deonarain departed with the score on 103 but there was no relief for NY Centurion when Bose Persaud stepped in and turned it up from ball one. The hard hitting right-hander struck two 6’s and four 4’s in his innings of 42 and changed what was expected to be a 140 inning to 189.
Marlon Persaud played a handsome hand in the inning striking 2 sixes in his 20. Troy Doodnauth picked up 2 for 43 off 4 overs for NY Centurion.
The NY Centurion inning never gained momentum; they lost one of their openers in the 1st over and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Trevor Singh, who was the other opener, held his end till the 18th over but only managed 47. Terrence Madramootoo picked up 3 wickets with his off spinners while Marlon Persaud bowled economically to pick up 1 for 18 off his 4 overs. Andy Harricharran and Vijendra Singh also bowled economically and picked up a wicket each.
The victory means LSC remains undefeated in their Zone with two crucial matches left against Richmond Hill CC and Hillside SC respectively.
In their first T20Blitz encounter Andy Harricharran (49), Dilly Khilawan (37), Imtiaz Hassan (25) & Deonarain (23) led the scoring to get LSC to 175 at Heckshire State Park against Victory CC.
Hassan returned to pick up 2 wickets along with Vijendra Singh while Harricharran, Marlon Persaud & Habibulla picked up 1 each to bowling out VCC for 106.
