AHMEDABAD (INDIA), DEC 22 – An unbeaten hurricane 45-ball 102 by Derick Narine displayed his terrific form as visiting the USA Cricket Academy Under-19 team defeated Shree Swaminarya Gurukul Vishwavidya Pratisthanam (SGVP) XI by 126 runs in a T-20 match with two balls to spare at the Sardar Patel Motera Stadium here today. Derick earned the distinction of hitting the first century of the USA Cricket Academy tour of India.
Derick Narine, who hails from Guyana, flayed the SGVP bowlers. In his unbeaten century, Derick executed five massive sixes and reached the fence 14 times. Invited to bat first after losing the toss, the visiting USA Under-19 team opened their innings through Derick Narine and Gauranshu Sharma (10, 2x4s). The pair put on 47 runs in 4.1 overs before Sharma was bowled by Jay Chauhan.
Derick and Karanjit Singh (21, 2x4s, 1×6) bolstered USA Cricket Academy’s inning as they were associated in a 101-run partnership for the second-wicket. The two batsmen carried the score from 47 for 1 to 148 for 2 in 11.3 overs. The partnership was broken by Shail Thakor who had Karanjit caught by Brijesh Shingala. Later Arjun Patel would emerge not out on 28. His knock included four boundaries.
The USA Cricket Academy posted an impressive 209 for 4 in the 20 stipulated overs. For SGVP, Shail Thakor was the most successful bowler as he bagged 2 for 44.
Facing an uphill task of scoring 210 runs for victory, the SGVP XI was scuttled out for 83 in 19.4 overs. Only Meet Patel (20), Brijesh Shingala (14), and Kallu Patel (11), were able to reach the double figure marks.
USA Cricket Academy bowlers Gauranshu Sharma (3 for 10), and Gaurav Patankar (3 for 22) , were the wreckers-in-chief of the SGVP innings. Akshay Patel captured 2 for 10, while Karan Patel and Lijo Mazhuvanchery bagged one wicket each for 20 and 8 runs, respectively.

Sports Minister, Education Minister of Gujarat and Sports Authority of India director R. K. Naydu and Gujarat Law Minister Dileep Sanghan, were the chief guests during the award ceremony.
The USA Cricket Academy Under-19 team began their tour by losing their opening 50-over match with Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) XI by massive 303 runs. GCA batted first and scored 360 in 46.1 overs. Raj Majithia, 109 (15x4s, 2×6), and Karan Trivedi (86, 9x4s), were their top scorers.
For the visitors Akshay Patel (3 for 74), Mario Persaud (3 for 51) and Shail Patel (2 for 58) were their main wicket-takers.
In reply Gujarat Cricket Association dismissed USA Cricket Academy U19 XI for 57 in 25.4 overs. Derick Narine (14) and Jaafar Shahbuddin (9) could face GCA bowlers with some confidence. Kavish Panchal (4 for 20), Drushant Soni (2 for 21) and Manan Hingrajiya (2 for 6) virtually unplayable for the American colts.

The USA Cricket Academy Under-17 and Under-19 teams are on an 18-day tour of India to gain experience and exposure at the different international venues in the country.
