The Sunrise cricket club sponsored by Kaieteur Liberty Restaurant and Bar at 120th Street and Liberty Avenue, and Hansa Engineer Services, PC at 128th Street and Liberty expected a battle facing Flashers last Sunday at Kissena. Most interesting the last time these two teams met the game ended in a draw, and this game had all of the same thrilling components. Flashers winning the toss took no chances as they were bowled out in the last deliver which resulted in the tie game in their last encounter with Sunrise. Most importantly in their preceding week’s match Flashers  scored over 200 plus runs against Liberty Knights and looked to serve Sunrise the same dish as Randy Narine and Mark EZ looked to give their team a strong start.

Deryck, Ramjit and Kheraj of Sunrise.

Both batsmen showed aggression but Khemraj Somaru of Sunrise was resilient after giving up a double to start off the game and in the last ball of his first overs had Randy Narine caught at cover by Deryck Basdeo with the score at 4. As Mark was finding success in scoring Khemraj who was bowling in line struck again shattering Rocco stump in the 3rd over. Khemraj came back was on fire to start his 3rd overs and clean bowl Vick Singh in his first delivery as Flashers was in disbelief with the score 3 for 19 in the 4th over. To turn up the pressure on Flashers Deryck Basdeo Sunrise leading wicket taker was given the ball and came up big as he dangled D Singh stumps.

Looking for wickets Ramjit Singh was summoned and all hell broke loose for Flashers batting. Ramjit had Andy caught brilliantly by Deryck Basdeo at deep square leg, bowled Mark for 18, and had Vikash Singh caught at short stop by Alix Hussain. Ramjit left the Flasher team devastated and dismayed as the score card read 38 for 7 in the 9th over. Looking for the kill the ball was given back to Deryck to swipe the air out of Flashers batting. In his 2nd delivery Deryck had Raaj caught by Ramjit at silly point, Beisal stumped beautifully by Wahab, and Rabin caught by Ramjit at point which drew the last blood out of Flashers with the score 40 all out in 10 over. Flashers was stunned and left spellbound after being wrapped up Sunrise bowlers.

The Sunrise bowlers were untouchable with outstanding bowling figures by Deryck Basdeo 4 for 8, Ramjit Singh 3 for 1 which was the miracle over and Khemraj Somaru who started the wicket taking 3 for 21 that paved the way for his team bowling havoc over Flashers.

With Flashers bowling squad no one expect that they will bowed out easily as Deryck Basdeo and his captain Roopnarine Dayal faced off Beisal who looks sharp to defend their total. Beisal 1st delivery was short as Deryck flashed and was caught which brought a roar from Flashers with the score 1 for 0. In the same over Beisal in his 4th delivery clean bowled Wahab Hussain as the score read 2 for 0 and Flashers team believed they has game on and a chance. Dayal joined by Rohit Kowlesser had to fend of Vikash Singh who started is spell by bowling a maiden. Dayal found success as he picked up some quick boundaries and with Rohit who defensive stroke was working. Trying to win the small total quickly Rohit took a dangerous shot run and was ran out the score at 20 for 3 in the 5th overs.

D Singh bowling at number 3 bowling was remarkable and started his spell with a maiden overs as he had Rajesh Harriprashad bowled. Dayal lead and aggressive batting chase and he make 14 and after popping out to short mid on. With strong believe that they can win Flasher bowlers bowled in the right areas and was top notch trying to hold down Sunrise batsmen. After slamming a boundary to long on Antonio Dalli was taken by Beisal with the score at 39 for 6. Khemraj and Ramjit Singh appropriately were left to close the game and wrapped the required runs and took their team to 41 for 6. It was breath taking game as Flasher made Sunrise batsmen worked very hard for each runs compiling numerous maiden overs.

The Flasher bowlers were tough as D. Singh led the bowling with figures of 2 for 6. While Vikash was 1 for 4 and Beisal 2 for 18.
