Cricket glorious cricket!
Seems like these days it’s all about the 20/20 version that is keeping the game alive. Right here in New York, most leagues round off their season by playing this shortened version that’s full of excitement and is not for the faint-hearted.
In the Commonwealth Cricket League things are no different as eight teams began their quest for a 20/20 championship title with $5000. in prize money up for grabs.
In the quarter-finals played last Sunday, October 2, the results were as follows:
Cunningham Park: Majestics defeated Long Island Lions. Majestics batted first and racked up 226 runs with most of the blows coming from the in-form Chris Patadin who slammed 51, Derrick Narine, following on his back-to-back centuries last week, cracked 59 and Devindra Lalsa top-scored with 82. Christopher Watson took 3 wickets for 14 runs
Brooklyn: Pak America beat Commonwealth Cricket League 2016 Champs National CC in a thriller that went down to the last ball.
Whitestone: Irfan and his Strikers team are continuing their winning ways as they easily defeated Hawks CC. Strikers took first strike and rattled up 128 runs with the main contributor being Dehan with 47.
Hawks could only manage 61 runs and Rumon was the chief-destroyer grabbing four cheap scalps.
Baisley 150 Street: Punjabi XI easily defeated a depleted Rockaway side.
So on to the semis and all the games will be played this Sunday, October 9 at the famous Ferry Park [Whitestone]. The match-ups are as follows:
At Whitestone 1, Strikers will take on Vijay’s mighty Majestics, and at Whitestone 2, it will be Punjabi 11 going against Pak America, a team that seems to have all the momentum currently. Both games start at 10.00 am and the Finals at 1.30 pm sharp.
Who will win? It is anyone’s guess as here we have four teams on display and the cricket will surely not disappoint. Be there!!
