ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier
With the announcement earlier in the week that USA National Men’s team senior player Steve Massiah unexpectedly had to withdraw from the team travelling to the UAE to compete in the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier, USA National Selectors were forced to make application to the ICC Technical Committee for a replacement player to be added to the team.
This morning USACA has received formal notification that the ICC Technical Committee has formally approved that Massiah’s replacement. The USA National team will add youngster Fahad Babar to make up the final squad of 15 that leaves for Abu Dhabi next Saturday.
Barbar (21) hails from the Central East Region where he plays for the United Cricket Club in the Bolingbrook Cricket League. He formerly represented the USA Under-19 team in 2011 at the ICC Americas U-19 Division One tournament in Florida. However, he is looking forward to making his debut for the US national team at this crucial tournament;
“It is every cricketer’s dream to play for their country and I feel very honored to have been given this amazing opportunity. The ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier will really test a lot of teams, but given how hard the guys worked at the recent camp in Fort Lauderdale, I feel confident that we will be very competitive. I know that the group is extremely proud and will want to compete hard in each game.
I am a little bit nervous and unsure what to expect in Abu Dhabi, but I know that the senior guys in the team like McGarrell, Allen and Baker will support the younger guys like me. I can’t wait to get over there!” Barbar said.
