2018 Girls Cricket League Champions, Future Stars, flanked by Commissioner Dale Holeness, Broward County and Jeff Miller, CEO of Worldwide Sports Management Group and Jamaica Tallawahs.
The inaugural Girls Cricket League concluded last weekend with the Future Stars emerging as tournament Champions having won all four games.
After weeks of nonstop rain in South Florida, a forecast of thunderstorms for the weekend, and a downpour on the eve of the tournament, the rain gods made way for a beautiful weekend of cricket befitting the talented girls.
Among the many outstanding performances, Future Stars’ Atoshi Banerjee scored the tournament’s highest individual score of 49 off 57 balls. Lisa Ramjit of Future Stars was the tournament’s highest run-getter with 101 runs, including 14 boundaries in 4 games.
In the bowling department, Ramjit, Geetika Kodali, and Banerjee were very impressive with their best bowling figures of 4/4, 4/5, and 3/1, respectively. The individual award winners are as follows:
• Most Runs – Lisa Ramjit (101)
• Most Wickets – Geetika Kodali (8)
• Best Wicket Keeper – Anika Kolan (4 catches)
• Best Fielder – Atoshi Banerjee
• Joint Tournament MVPs – Geetika Kodali and Lisa Ramjit

Before players arrived in Florida, the two-team U14 tournament drew attention from around the world with top international players, Alex Blackwell, Charlotte Edwards, Shamilia Connell, Stafanie Taylor, Suzie Bates, and a host of USA women players providing videos of support to the girls.
The Australia Big Bash League’s Sydney Thunder gifted the girls Sydney Thunder clothing in recognition of their participation in the tournament.
The Girls Cricket League featured a new dimension to tournaments in the US with the addition of a speaking panel of senior USA national players. Current and former players, Nadia Gruny, Sugetha Chandhrasekar, Joan Alexander-Serrano, and Joy Jones, fielded questions in the panel session moderated by Orville Hall, USA Cricket U19 Team Manager.
USA Cricket Project Manager Eric Parthen jumped into the act to address the girls and their parents via an impromptu video call.
The tournament never ceased to deliver excitement, great cricket, and goodies. At the closing ceremony, Jeff Miller, CEO of Worldwide Sports Management Group – owner of the Caribbean Premier League’s (CPL) Jamaica Tallawahs, announced that all players would be gifted free tickets to the upcoming West Indies vs Bangladesh T20 and CPL games hosted in Lauderhill, Florida.
