On a beautiful, made-to-order Maryland summer day, the seventh annual Maryland Youth Cricket Championships were held in Bowie last Saturday.
In the first match of the day, Bowie earned in 5th consecutive 11U state championship, defeating Rockville by six wickets at Rockledge Elementary School. Meanwhile, in the 14U championship at Kenilworth Elementary, Future Stars School of Cricket (FSSC) put on a clinic against LTC Thunder, chasing down the winning total in the 12th over without losing a wicket.
Back at Rockledge, another FSSC team was doing even better in the 12U title match, chasing down Rockville in just eight overs while losing only one wicket. In the last match at Kenilworth, however, FSSC’s 17U team found itself on the other side of the stick as the WCL Cubs won by nine wickets in just 14 overs, displacing them as state champions after a two-year run at the top.
In the final match of the day at Whitehall Elementary School, Bowie repeated as the Girl’s Division champions over Chantilly.
For the first time ever this year, you could watch state championship matches from home as both the 14U & 17U contests were streamed live on the MYCA YouTube channel – with commentary.
Maryland Youth Cricket would like to thank Shaffeel Ahmed, who produced the broadcasts; Sandan Kumar, who did commentary for both matches; and Abhinav Samuel & Falgun Patel, who operated the camera. Without their efforts this great advance would not have been possible.
We would also like to thank Bowie and Sham Chotoo for being a marvelous host site.
Susan Chotoo, chair of the Events Committee, organized the day and raced between three locations and took literally thousands of photos as she recorded the event. Look to see many of her images in the days and weeks ahead.

Congratulations to all of our state champions, and “better luck next year” to the runners up!
