Gordon Disappointed But Pleased With Personal Performance

Lively fast-bowler Jeremy Gordon has expressed disappointment after Canada unfortunately failed to make the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. His declaration came on Sunday evening via email with this writer from Dubai where the Qualifiers tournament is taking place.

On Sunday the Canadians featured in their seventh and final game against Italy and emerged with an exciting five-wicket win with the former Guyana cricketer Gordon captured a man-of-the-match award having claimed 3-15 from his maximum four overs.

Gordon first mentioned about his input and was proud to be on top of his game and will certainly relish this performance but felt the combination of the side for this innovative format was a problem.

“I really do think we had a good team to definitely qualify or at least make it to the second round, however, I think our combinations were wrong in all aspects,” the 26-year-old Gordon related.

Canada only won two of the abovementioned number of matches since the commencement of the tournament on November 15. They beat Uganda in the other schedule by a facile 44-run margin with the penetrative Gordon was once again dominant as he nabbed two wickets for nine runs from three economical overs.

“It felt really good even though we were still knocked out of the tournament; I have been working on my game a lot over the last few months and I am indeed happy I was able to put up these performances over here,” the Brampton Masters Elite player pointed out.

Since making his debut in 2011 for Canada at the regional West Indies Cricket Board T20 tournament in the Caribbean, the Berbician has been a regular member of the team in all three versions.

Earlier this year he had created history by taking a hat-trick against United Arab Emirates at King City in the ICC Intercontinental four-day cup. He ended with eight wickets while several weeks later he reproduced the same momentum to grab another eight-wicket match-haul against the Netherlands also at King City.

Gordon, who represented Guyana at the under-19 and was on standby for the West Indies youth team in 2006 World Cup, is anxious to play for his native country again and has begun focusing on the endeavor.

He stated that he will be down to Guyana on December 5 to vie for a spot on the national side that will be participating in the upcoming regional four-day and one-day tournaments.

Meanwhile, Canada will be matching their skills against Kenya on Tuesday in the 11th Place play-off. Since the inauguration of the global T20 world cup in 2006 (South Africa), the North America country only featured on two occasions.
