On January 21, the Board of Education for Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) had its second meeting of the year. During that meeting, Dr. Kevin Maxwell, Chief Executive Officer, paid tribute to Sham Chotoo of the Bowie Boys & Girls Club (BBGC) and the Maryland Youth Cricket Association (MYCA).

Working together with parent volunteers, cricket colleagues, the BBGC, the United States Youth Cricket Association (UYSCA) and PGCPS, Sham and Ram Ragoo formed the first elementary school and middle school cricket leagues in the United States.

Most of the parents, teachers, and students knew nothing about the game before, but now they all love cricket. In 2015, about 250 students participated in the cricket program and about one-third were girls. PGCPS presented Sham with a plaque as a token of its appreciation for all his hard work in introducing cricket to the students.

Congratulations to Sham, and continued success in making Maryland a cricket-playing state!
