Some of best of Guyana’s yesteryear cricketers will be on show in a feature exhibition game set for Baisley Park in Queens next month.
The likes of Milton Pydanna, Leslaine Lambert, Ray Joseph, Deryck Kallicharran and Terry Etwaroo will try to roll back the years in aid of the Friends of Former Guyana Cricketers (FFGC) group’s efforts to give back to the game.
They will headline a team of past players taking on a side of the young and active ones in a Twenty20 game at the ground popularly known as the “Cage” on August 13th, in a fund raising match-up which is the latest in a series of activities by the group to help past Guyana national players.
Other past stalwarts expected to be on show include Collie Solomon, Amarnauth Ramcharitar, Victor Benjamin and Kamal Singh. The full lineup will be finalized this week while the youth team is likely to be spearheaded by Greg Sewdial, Akeem Dodson, Andre Kirton and Romano Dean, Guyanese players aiming to make a name for themselves for the United States national team.
Friends of Former Guyana Cricketers raffle will be drawn. Prizes include a return airline ticket to Guyana and an autographed cricket bat. Tickets can be had from Tyrone Etwaroo on telephone # 718-840-7600 or Deryck Kallicharran on 917-573-8078.
The FFGC was formed three months ago and its goal is to aid ex Guyana players or their families back in Guyana.
Former dashing Guyana opening batsman the late Andrew Lyght will be the first beneficiary in whose honor two limited overs games, organized by FFGG and involving teams of overseas-based ex Guyana players and Guyana-based who will clash in Guyana in October. A donation from the group will be made to Lyght’s family, after the two matches.
The FFGG’s last activity was a successful Bar-B-Q dinner held a month ago.
