Eastern American Cricket Association Power 40
Imtiaz Hassan struck a boundary filled 72 while Andy Harricharran bowled a fiery spell picking up 3 wickets and Terrence Madramootoo safely navigated the lower order in chasing 217 against Hillside Sports Club to deliver a win for Liberty Sports Club to close off the 2013 EACA Power40 season.
Hillside SC won the toss and chose to bat first but found themselves in immediate trouble losing their opening pair in the first two overs. Hassan, opening the bowling for LSC would strike again shortly after to remove the dangerous Zamal Khan for 4. Wickets continued to fall when Harricharran was introduced into the attack. The right arm quick bowled a scorching spell of 8 overs 1 maiden 3 wickets for 34 runs as he ran through Hillside’s middle order.
Gerald Mangal staged a late inning fight back with an aggressive 89 not out and found some help from Boughnarine Persaud 32. Hillside eventually saw off the 40 overs scoring 217 for 9. Hassan picked up 2 for 30 while Thakur Singh, Terrence Madramootoo & Marlon Persaud chipped in with a wicket each.
Liberty’s chase got off to a solid start but both openers would fall shortly after and that was followed by a mid-order collapse. The #BlueNation soon found themselves in trouble with 5 wickets down and 70 on the board. Hassan then stepped in and took command of the chase. He raced to his half century with 3 sixes and 8 fours and just 3 singles. Marlon (20) played responsibly at the other end and kept the score board ticking over.
The fall of Hassan’s wicket added some intrigue to the chase but Madramootoo came in and played responsibly towards the end of the chase to navigate his team home. Madramootoo scored an unbeaten 40 which included a 30 runs match winning partnership with Vijay Naidu. Bowling for Hillside G. Lalsa picked up 3 for 37 while Mangal returned with the ball to pick up 3 for 45.
