Caribbean teams along with an English and ICC Americas counterparts embarked on the 2017 WICB Regional Nagico Super50 tournament on January 25, and taking place in Barbados and Antigua. The ICC Americas team found itself taking on the Combined Colleges & Campuses Marooners (CCC Marooners) one day after beating them in a warm-up game.

ICC Americas was sent in to bat by CCC Marooners and found itself in early trouble when opener Srimantha Wijeyeratne fell for a duck with the score on just 2. Skipper Nitish Kumar followed his fellow Canadian back to the pavilion after adding just a single to the team’s total. The scorecard read 2 for 4. USA national player Alex Amsterdam followed suit when he was caught for 2 off 18 balls with the score on 22.

Canadian Nikhil Dutta would join opener Kamau Leverock of Bermuda as the pair took the score to 39, before Leverock fell for 26 off 27 deliveries, and including 3 fours. USA middle order batsman Nicholas Standford didn’t last long after, being caught by wicketkeeper Jamal Smith for 11, with the scorecard reading 5 for 53. Akeem Dodson would then join Nikhil Dutta and the pair added 36 runs, the second best partnership of the ICC Americas’ innings. Dutta’s inning came to an end when Ryan Hinds caught him off the bowling of Vikash Mohan for a patient knock of 26 from 64 balls, and including one maximum.

Lanky USA all-rounder Timroy Allen strode to the middle and put together a decent partnership of 28 runs with Akeem Dodson, coming off 8.2 overs. Dodson departed with the score at 117. He struck a valuable 28 off 79 balls with two boundaries. But it was Saad Bin Zafar and Allen who would bring some respectability to the ICC Americas total, as the pair put on 60 runs for the eight-wicket, contributing 25 and 30 runs respectively.

ICC Americas finished on 181 for 9 off the allotted 50 overs with Timroy Allen top scoring with a brisk 43 from 50 balls, including four boundaries and one six. Zafar would finish on 25, while Jasdeep Singh and Cecil Pervez were not out on 1 and 3 respectively.

Keon Harding, Jermaine Levy and Vikash Mohan picked up two wickets each, while Christopher Powell, Nino Henry and Ryan Hinds had one apiece.

It would only take CCC Marooners batsmen 45.4 overs to hit off the required runs, as their openers Jamal Smith and Amir Jangoo put on an opening stance of 81, the highest of the inning.

Along with openers, Kyle Corbin, Vikash Mohan and Cassius Burton were the other batters to grace the middle. Openers Smith and Jangoo contributed 36 and 52 respectively. Number four batsman Mohan was the only batter not to get among the runs as he fell for a duck. Corbin and Burton would remain unbeaten on 47 and 38 respectively and gave CCC Marooners a win in their first game.

ICC Americas’ next game will be against the Barbados Pride at the 3Ws Oval on January 28.
