The ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup match between India and USA, held at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on June 12, 2024, witnessed a dominant performance by the Indian team. India, after winning the toss, chose to bowl first, capitalizing on their strong bowling lineup.

The USA innings started on a disastrous note, losing their first wicket on the very first ball when Shayan Jahangir was trapped leg-before-wicket by Arshdeep Singh for a golden duck. This early breakthrough set the tone for India’s bowlers. Andries Gous followed soon after, scoring only 2 runs before being caught by Hardik Pandya off Arshdeep Singh’s bowling, leaving USA at a precarious 3/2 in the first over.

Steven Taylor attempted to stabilize the innings with a cautious 24 off 30 balls, hitting two sixes but failing to find the boundary otherwise. However, his resistance ended when he was bowled by Axar Patel in the 12th over. Aaron Jones and Nitish Kumar also contributed to the middle order, scoring 11 and 27 runs respectively, but their efforts were not enough to steer the team towards a strong total. Nitish Kumar showed some aggressive intent, striking two fours and a six before being caught by Mohammed Siraj off Arshdeep Singh.

The lower middle order, featuring Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh, tried to accelerate the scoring rate. Anderson scored a quick 15 off 12 balls, including a four and a six, before being caught behind by Rishabh Pant off Pandya’s bowling. Harmeet Singh managed 10 runs off 10 balls before falling to Arshdeep Singh.

The USA’s tail-enders struggled to make a significant impact, with Jessy Singh being run out by Mohammed Siraj after scoring just 2 runs. Shadley van Schalkwyk remained unbeaten at 11 runs off 10 balls. The USA finished their innings at 110/8 after 20 overs, with extras contributing 8 runs to the total.

Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler for India, taking 4 wickets for just 9 runs in his 4-over spell. Hardik Pandya provided excellent support, claiming 2 wickets for 14 runs. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah kept things tight, each conceding 25 runs in their 4-over spells without taking a wicket.

Chasing a modest target of 111, India’s innings also began with early jitters. Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck on the second ball of the innings by Saurabh Netravalkar. Rohit Sharma followed soon after, scoring only 3 runs before being caught by Harmeet Singh off Netravalkar’s bowling, leaving India at 10/2 in 2.2 overs.

Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav then took charge, with Pant playing a steady knock of 18 runs off 20 balls, including a four and a six. However, Pant’s dismissal in the 8th over, bowled by Ali Khan, brought further concern to the Indian camp at 39/3.

Suryakumar Yadav played a pivotal role in anchoring the innings. His composed yet aggressive innings of 50 not out from 49 balls, featuring two fours and two sixes, ensured India stayed on course. Shivam Dube provided solid support with an unbeaten 31 off 35 balls, hitting a four and a six. Together, they steadied the ship and guided India to a comfortable victory with 11 balls to spare.

Among the USA bowlers, Saurabh Netravalkar was the most effective, taking 2 wickets for 18 runs in his 4 overs. Ali Khan also managed to claim a wicket, giving away 21 runs in his 3.2 overs. However, the rest of the bowlers struggled to make significant breakthroughs against the experienced Indian batting lineup.

India secured a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over the USA, underlining their dominance in the T20 format. Arshdeep Singh’s exceptional bowling performance earned him the Man of the Match award. The game showcased the depth and strength of the Indian team, both in bowling and batting, while the USA team showed moments of promise but ultimately fell short against a superior opponent.
