On Sunday, July 12th Guyana took on the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (UMass) in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, on a lighting fast outfield and scorching hot temperatures.
Spin wizard Rudy Jaglall spun webs around the UMass batsmen picking up 4 for 26 off his 8 overs. Lakhram Sanichar and Sharaz Baksh then scored unbeaten half-centuries.
UMass won the toss and elected to take first strike, the opening pair struggled to score freely on a fast outfield, as veteran swing bowler Lall Balgobin and Sharaz Baksh picked up one wicket each. Sharat Modgula anchored the innings with a patient half-century and while receiving support from Kousik Lakkaraju (29). Guyana’s Rudy Jaglall was the chief destroyer and he received good support from spin twin Oditnarine Ramlochan who picked up 2 for 28 off his 8 overs. UMass was eventually all out for 165.
Chasing 166 for victory, Guyana’s Lakhram Sanichar blasted a quick fire 54 that included 7x4s and one six, before retiring. Sharaz Baksh (52 not out) continued his fine form with another half-century, striking six sweetly timed 4s and 2x6s. Suraj Shivraj (16 not out) ended the chase in a hurry, while smacking 3x4s. Guyana achieved the target of 166, while losing only two wickets in 23 overs.
