Liberty Sports Club’s new ball duo, Vijendra ‘Jay’ Singh and Imtiaz ‘Tizzle’ Hassan delivered a riveting spell of 16 combined overs for 47 runs and scalping seven batsmen to set up a commanding seven wicket win for the boys in blue. LSC routed their 2nd round Eastern American Cricket Association opponent, Victory Cricket Club, for 113 in the 30th over then returned to chase down the target in the 22nd over.
Team blue won the toss and chose to field following overnight rain and immediately went to work with Jay picking up his first wicket in the first over. He went on to pick up his second in his second over as Victory found themselves in early trouble at 26 for 2 in the 4th over. Tizzle took a while to get going at the other end but joined the party in his 4th over when he struck twice. Jay then responded with 2 more wickets to finish with his LSC career best figures of 8 overs 4 wickets for 16 runs. Tizzle complemented the skiddy medium pace of Jay with 8 overs 2 maidens 3 for 29 runs.
Kabir Javaid staged a resistance for VCC. He struck 5 fours as he patiently fended off LSC’s first change pair of Yaugeshwar Ganesh (4 overs for 20) & Tooneshwar Kristona (4 overs for 19). The introduction of spin into the attack along with a direct hit run out by Terrence ‘Coolie Bai’ Madramootoo brought a swift end to the VCC inning, however. Off spinner, Thakur Singh picked up 2 for 11 to wrap up inning. Madramootoo had 2 overs to 11 runs at the other end.
Needing to chase a moderate total, LSC got off to a poor start when first game centurion, Dilly Khilawan, was run out in the first over for just 3 runs. Captain Danesh Deonarain came out and struck 3 boundaries but played on looking to drive through the offside. At the other end opening batsman, Marlon Persaud, played watchfully and was keen to gather the singles and rotate the strike. Hassan joined him and the pair added 43 before Hassan was also bowled. Hassan contributed 20 which was accented by one four and a six.
Flashy stroke maker, Andy Harricharran, joined Marlon and the pair built a solid partnership to bring Team Blue home. Marlon finished as the top scorer in the inning with 4 fours in his unbeaten 39. Harricharran ended on 31 not out which included five fours and one six.
Bowling for VCC Sumish Khadka & Kabir Javaid picked up 1 wicket each.
