The 2012 PSAL Cricket Playoffs is scheduled to kick-off on Tuesday, June 5th. and on Thursday, June 7th, with sixteen teams competing to be crowned champions. In the final week of the regular season, John Adams hard hitting opening batsman Troy Mars engraved a new PSAL record by blasting 184 runs against Queens HS of Teaching at Kissena Park.
Mars finished with the most runs (739) in the regular season, surpassing Van Buren’s Amarnauth Persaud (716) by 26 runs to become the leading run scorer. Last year’s “super over” hero, Abrar Zafar of defending champions Franklin D. Roosevelt registered his first ton (129) of the season against Wingate HS, while Aown Iqbal of William Bryant recorded his third (129*) to complete the season.
Taher Miah of Dewitt Clinton HS finished with the most wickets (31) by helping his team secure home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs, but Long Island City’s all-rounder Redwanur Khan bowled his team to victory against Clinton after capturing seven wickets and allowing only four runs.
