Liberty Sports Club’s opening batsman & vice-captain, Dilly Khilawan, stroked a maiden century for his team to set up a commanding 94 runs victory over Enmore Cricket Club during the opening day’s play in the Eastern American Cricket Association games. Terrence Madramootoo blasted a quick fire 75 and Danesh Deonarain’s 70 combined to post a club record 313 for 7 off 40 overs.
In reply Enmore only managed 219 for 9 off 40 overs. Marlon Persaud lead Team Blue’s bowling attack with 4 for 41 off 7 overs. Imtiaz Hassan also contributed with 2 for 32 off 7 overs while Vijendra Singh and Terrence Madramootoo chipped in with a wicket each.
Safraz Ali held the innings together for Enmore with a solid 86 while Under 19 player Nicholas Harripersaud scored a late inning 45 not out. Harripersaud was also one of 3 Enmore bowlers who picked up 2 wickets when they were asked to take the field first after LSC won the toss.
The day belonged to Dilly Khilawan as he safely navigated his team through 39.4 overs, bring up his ton with a crisp drive through extra cover. He struck 8 fours and 1 six during his landmark inning in which he surpass his previous club best of 85. Dilly has been a consistent performer for LSC over the previous 2 year. His batting performance in 2011 earned him the season’s Most Valuable Player while in 2012 he also contributed steadily.
Terrence ‘Coolie Bai’ Madramootoo struck 8 fours and 3 sixes as he powered his way through the Enmore attack. Madramootoo’s performance marks his best showing for LSC with the bat also.
Deonarain’s 70 was marked with 4 fours and 5 sixes as the LSC captain fell just 8 short of his previous club best.
Marlon Persaud, bowling his off breaks, picked up his club best figures in this just his second match for LSC. His 4 wickets included the prolific Safraz Ali and also featured a potential hat trick.
Safraz struck 10 fours in his inning while Harripersaud struck 8 fours during his stay at the crease.
