Van Cortland Park Conservancy will hold a cricketers meeting on Tuesday (today) May 29th, 7 pm at Ranaqua, 1 Bronx River Parkway. The agenda will include scheduling of the fields for a possible fall opening, how to celebrate and how to maintain them. We must also hold a short master planning session since no cricketers were able to attend last month’s community session.
It’s important for this plan to have cricketers’ input so future designers will be well informed about your needs and wishes for the park for the next 20 years. This meeting is open to all adult cricketers, not just organizers.
Here is a description of the master planning process.
Bronx communities have long been engaged in efforts to improve their park system. Over the years neighborhood partners, elected officials, the Parks Department have made many improvements to Van Cortlandt Park. It is time to take stock of all that has been accomplished, understand existing plans, and plan the next twenty years of work.
Van Cortlandt Park Administrator, Margot Perron, is working with Charles McKinney, the Principal Urban Designer at NYC Parks, and Sherida Paulsen, Principal at PKSB Architects and VCP Conservancy Board Member, to prepare a Master Plan that unifies the Park, solves current problems and makes the most of its charms. Your feedback is critical in addressing concerns such as recreation and amenities; ecology, forest and lake health; park operations; pedestrian, runner, horse, bicycle and security circulation.
You’re invited to a community-wide work session to map community concerns, work underway and ideas for improvement. It will be a fun evening of writing and marking on huge maps of the park in small groups. The goal is to figure out and document what people are already working on, what problems they face and what more we can all accomplish together.
Going forward, an Advisory Council composed of citizens and officials will further guide the plan development. The results of this year long process will be posted on the park’s web site by summer of 2013.
Please RSVP via return email so I can be sure to have enough tables and chairs.
