On Friday 4th March, Middlesex Cricket Club of New York headed to Sarasota Florida for their annual preseason games, hosted by Sarasota International cricket club. From the inceptions of Middlesex cricket club three years ago, we have decided, we will make the Florida tour an annual event. We see this as an opportunity to build relationships beyond the boundaries. We see it as an investment in our season, an investment in the club. Middlesex see a trip such as this as vital to their future on the field.
Sarasota International cricket club are made of members from India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and West Indies. It was two days of cricket, Saturday 5th a 40 overs match and Sunday 6th a 35 overs match.
On Saturday 3-5, Middlesex vs Sarasota International Cricket Club at Sarasota Florida, Middlesex won the toss and took first strike, Middlesex was dismissed for 195 from 35 overs, It was a calypso collapse, after a fine opening stand of 115 runs, between Alston Bacchus who topped scored with 54 and Mark Audain with 50, bowling for Sarasota, Deevee 4 for 25 from 5 overs, and Gossiah 2 for 15 from 4 overs. Sarasota 198 for 6 from 39.3 overs, Gossiah topped scored with a well played 69 not out, and Tony Campbell former Jamaica player with 37, bowling for Middlesex, Michael Lynch 2 for 33 from 8 overs and Treldon Mc Millan 2 for 37 from 8 overs, Sarasota winning by 4 wickets.
On Sunday 3-6, Middlesex vs Sarasota International Cricket Club at Sarasota Florida, Middlesex won the toss and took first strike, Middlesex 279 for 6 from 35 overs, Mark Audain topped score with a magnificent 117 (retired), which included 10 fours and 2 sixes, good support came from Chandrapaul Roopnarine with a briliant 50, Eric Bacchus with a quick fire 31 which included 5 fours, bowling for Sarasota, Sudeep was the most succesful bowler with 4 for 59 from 7 overs. Sarasota 196 for 6 from 35 overs, Gossiah 34 was the only batsman to get any significant score, bowling for Middlesex, Nelson Bacchus picket up 2 wickets,Michael Lynch and Treldon Mc Millan picket up one wicket each.Middlesex winning by 83 runs. At the closing ceremony, Sudeep was awarded the trophy for the most wickets, Mark Audain was awarded the trophy for the most runs and Skipper Alston Bacchus collected the trophy for winning the championship match.
