It was one of those days that Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Club called judgment day. There were nothing on the negative side throughout the day with all the scenarios that would put MMZ through to the semis, going as planned but in the blink of an eye something that no one had in their thoughts happened and that was Big Apple CC losing to Liberty SC having won 12 out of 12.
The scenarios to send MMZ CC to the semis were Atlantis had to beat Hillside, Big Apple had to beat Liberty and MMZ had to beat Galaxy. If Big Apple lost to Liberty SC and the result for the other scenarios remain as predicted then Big Apple will meet Liberty SC in the Semis and of course, if Big Apple had beaten Liberty SC they would have to face MMZCC.
MMZ CC taking on Galaxy CC was sent in to take first strike with the determined Azurdeen Mohammed and Andre Persaud with the blade in their hands. Persaud did not trouble the scorers as he was bowled for a duck. Sumon Bari joined Mohammed and those two played some elegant strokes around the park and some sharp singles between the wickets.
As the partnership grew both batsmen started to play freely around the park, the partnership valued 143 runs before Bari sacrificed his wicket for Mohammed who was in his 90s few moments later Mohammed brought up his hard fought century with a pull shot to square for four. None of the other batsmen that joined Mohammed managed to stick around with him and that led to MMZ being dismissed for 189.
When Galaxy took strike none of their batsmen got going with the MMZ bowlers all being on target with Mohammed grabbing 3 wickets and he received support from Gangaram Lochan and Hansraj Dhanraj who had 2 wickets a piece to give MMZCC a well deserved victory.
On behalf of the entire MMZ family we would like to thank our sponsors, supporters and players and wish the teams all the best in the playoffs.
