Meten-Meer-Zorg’s Rocky Kowchai And Deonauth Baksh Stunned Hillside

On a bright, sunny but a very breezy day at Bay Park, Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) hosted Hillside SC. It was a long anticipated game between the two teams. With both teams going into the fourth round unbeaten, Hillside having boost up their batting line up with former Guyana youth player Zamal Khan who have already smashed two unbeaten tons for his club. MMZ on the other hand have a wealth of youths in their lineup.
MMZ skipper US national player Azurdeen Mohammed won the toss and elected to bat first on very damp wicket. MMZ started off with their usual pair of the skipper Azurdeen Mohammed and the attacking Richie Sieuchand. It was the veteran Syed Allie and the young speedster Jerald Mangal with the new leathers. The wicket showed signs of keeping on the low side with both bowlers keeping things tight, MMZ lost Sieuchand to a delivery that kept low and the disappointed Sieuchand was out adjudge LBW for 10 off Mangal. With the wicket playing two pace the skipper was taken his time trying to pick up the singles and doubles, until he tried to go over mid wicket and end up top edging Allie for 16. USA under 19 player Trevis Ross joined the dependable Deonauth Baksh.
MMZ was hoping that these two will rebuild the innings, but that wasn’t the case as Ross get a delivery from Persaud that kept low and was bowled. Baksh found a useful partner of another USA youth player Amarnath Persaud who was unfortunately left out of the USA under 19 team to tour Canada in July. Amarnath Persaud has proved to be one of the best young batsman in the country, however, he put his non selection behind him and tried to rebuild MMZ innings with the experience the dependable Deonauth Baksh, the two batsmen was picking up the singles and the occasionally fours on a wet and heavy outfield. Persaud was playing very aggressive hitting some handsome shots to see MMZ reaching the 100 mark. Baksh was playing his natural game making sure that his team was out of danger. Persaud on 36 got a good delivery from Khan and was well caught by the keeper, his innings proved to be a match winning one for his team. Baksh was joined by the reliable Saud Hussain, the two batted well to bring up the 150. Baksh played some fine shots before he was eventually out caught for a well played 50. Hussain was joined by Rocky Kowchai who was promoted up the order didn’t last long was out caught for 7, Zaaid Majeed was out stumped for 6 and Hussain was LBW for 7, Ajaz Asgarally and Rayhanul Islam left unbeaten. MMZ finished on 183 for 8 off their 40 overs.
Bowling for Hillside: Z. Khan 7-0-33-3
The Hillside crowd gather in one area ready to see their side chasing a modest 183 already add 5 points on their points tally was in for a huge surprised. Syed Allie and Kerry Ramlakhan opening the batting for Hillside it was the young pair of Rayhanul Islam and Rocky Kowchai to started off for MMZ attack. Islam was first to strike he had Syed Allie plumb lbw for a 2. Skipper Mohammed made a very good move taken off Islam after picking up the wicket due to the wind against him, and was replaced by Zaaid Majeed.
It was success for Majeed right away who bowled Kerry Ramlakhan for 3, with the score 20 for 2 a huge roar from the Hillside spectators who drove out to get a glimpse of their new star Zamal Khan. With the duo of Majeed and Kowchai bowling with their tail up it was going to be a huge task for Khan. He face his first ball from Majeed and stroke it well to through cover for a single it seems it was all over for MMZ, however, it was Kowchai who was bowling with lots of pace and swing got one to cut back sharply from outside the off stump and uprooted Khan middle stump to put a silence to the Hillside spectators. Kowchai continued to bowl well to finish with 4 for 15 in his 8 overs spell, Majeed finish with 2 for 15 off his 8. It was Gandhi 2 for 2 and Richie Sieuchand 1 for 6 that cleaned up the rest of the Hillside batsmen. Hillside was bowled out for 61 off 21.3 overs. Bowling for MMZ CC, R. Islam 1-0-5-1, R. Kowchai 8-2-15-4, Z. Majeed 8-1-15-2, S. Gandhi 2.3-0-2-2 and R. Sieuchand 2-0-6-1.
MMZ CC now on 20 points will be looking to continue their unbeaten run when the host Falcon on Sunday at Flushing 2 ground.
