West Demerara Masters sealed a comfortable win over Village Ram at Floyd Bennett Cricket Field on Saturday June 28, 2014. The game was reduced to 30 overs and Village Ram Masters won the toss decided to bat first. C. Roy and A. Brown opened the batting for Village Ram, and in the second over of C. Roy did not had any mercy for the West Dem bowler as he took 18 runs off P. Singh over and another 18 off Royo Sankar third over.
However, A. Brown did not last long as he was run out trying to steal a short single. P. Salmon then joined Roy and the pair put on a valuable partnership with Roy hammering each bowler to the boundary. He made a swashbuckling 79 with 7x4s and 5x6s before he was caught. Salmon did not last too long as he went down the track for a big swing over long on and found himself stranded with an away swing from Rudy Singh and was then stumped for 77 runs, 9x4s and 1×6. Village Ram reached 191 runs in their allotted 30 overs. Most successful bowlers were M. Kissoon had 6-0-17-3 and R. Singh 5-0-17-2.
In reply, West Demerara opening pair looked so solid with Royo Sankar and Jainauth Singh poised for a big score.
Unfortunately, Royo went slashing a ball wide outside of the off stump and was caught for 5. Mike Persaud joined Singh and the two were set for a good partnership until Singh played across the line and was bowled. Mike Persaud continued to dominate the game from both end of the wicket by stroking his way to a fine century (112). He displayed some fine shots all around the ground and stole the game away from Village Ram. His century came in the 20th over with 12x4s and 2x6s. West Dem reached their target in the 28 over.
Bowling for Village Ram, C. Roy had 2 for 23 and S. Belnarius 2 for 40.
