Just a month into 2015 cricket season and the Napa Valley Cricket Club (NVCC) already have three games under their belts.
In addition to their annual World Series of Cricket the NVCC have hosted the San Francisco Seals in Calistoga and traveled to San Diego to play on their annual tour.
The club has seen an influx of new members over the winter months made up of both ex-pats and local alike and now boast five American members in their ranks. As a result of the growth in their membership which is approaching 40 playing members the club have expanded their schedule of games for 2015 to give everyone the opportunity to get game time.
“It’s great to be in the position that we’re having to get more games on the books” said Andrew Healy, NVCC Vice President and the person who does all of the game scheduling for the club “Since our first season in 2012 we’ve usually played somewhere between 12 and 14 games each season – which runs from April through October – but this year that number will be closer to 17 as a result of the extra demand from new membership.”
NVCC will be hosting their usual local rivals over the coming months from Sonoma and Marin but also have games scheduled against teams from San Francisco and Sacramento. Teams from much further afield including Honolulu and Merion (Philadelphia) will be playing the NVCC as part of their annual tours too.
“Who wouldn’t want to come to our little slice of paradise and play cricket on their tour” said Phil Bourke NVCC President “in our short history we’ve carved out a great reputation for our hospitality as a cricket club. It’s what we do well here in the Napa Valley” continued Bourke “ and we’re always happy to host touring teams and show them the sight of our beautiful valley too.”
The NVCC host local rivals the Sonoma Gullies from Santa Rosa this coming Saturday from 10:30am at the Fairgrounds in Calistoga. Games between the two teams are traditionally low scoring and have always been close affairs.
“We’re excited to renew our trans-Mayacamas rivalry against the Sonoma guys this coming weekend” says Rob Bolch Club Captain of the NVCC “we always have very competitive and tight games against them that are played in a great spirit. Having not played so well on our recent tour to San Diego I know that some of the squad are looking to made amends for that performance.”
All of the games for the rest of the 2015 season are listed on the NVCC websites calendar page here – http://napacricket.com/calendar/
