New Jersey Panthers Captures T20 Title, Hyron Shallow Misses Double Ton
The final of the Bat and Ball Cricket League (BBCL) T20 tournament came down to the number one ranked team New Jersey Panthers and number two ranked New Jersey Barons. Panthers won the toss and elected to bat first. Their openers Adeeb Adam and Nazim Hussain got the Panthers off to a flying start scoring 35 off the first 3 overs.
At the half way mark Panthers were cruising at 85-1. Barons came back well after the mid-inning break and took quick wickets, including the wicket of Nazim Hussain for 49 which included 4 sixes.
A wonderful spell of bowling by Dhaval Panchal 4-0-22-2 and Anand Sardesai 4-0-29-2 had Panthers struggling at 126-6 in the 18th over, but a wonderful cameo from Wadood Dahir 37 off 18 balls including three huge sixes took Panthers to 170-8.
Chasing a target of 171, Barons got off to a great start and at one point were the favorites being 101-2 in 11.1 overs. Then Ahsen Javed turned the match on its head by getting two wickets off consecutive balls and Panthers didn’t look back after that. Ahsen Javed finished with a brilliant spell of 4-0-26-3 and well supported by Hassan Ali 2.4-0-16-2, Ahsan Chaudhry 2-0-10-2 and Ghufran Akbar 4-0-29-1. Barons were eventually bowled out for 132 runs in the 19th over. For Barons, Riken Patel scored 34 and Anand Sardesai contributed 47.
Panthers winning the final by 38 runs. Nazim Hussain was adjudged Man of the Match for his innings of 49 and some good fielding which included a run-out and a stumping.
