Women Cricket
Continuing their excellent run of success, the New York Tri-State women’s cricket team conquered Toronto Superstars 3-1 to blank the Canadian team at home and wrap- up the two-way series over the Canada-day weekend earlier this month.
Tri-State’s triumph followed-up on their 2-0 win at home three weeks earlier as solid all-round team performances continued to gave Toronto Superstars no chance.
The visiting NY Tri-State lineup ran up a 2-0 lead after the first two games following which the home team pulled one win back, but that success was only consolation as the NY side coasted to victory in the final game at the Malton ground.

Veteran spin bowler Ivy Mohabir led the way for Tri-State bagging seven wickets in the four games which along with steady batting, put paid to Superstars hopes.
Joan Alexander carried her bat for 21 runs before getting run out as Tri-State ran up 69-3 in reply to Superstars’ 68-6 off their allotted 20 overs in the first match. Mellisa Sandy chipped in with 15 for Tri-State which hit off the required target in 13.4 overs. U.Istikhar bowled well for Superstars, claiming two of the three wickets to fall while her teammate S. Singh hit a game high 27 which were all in vain. Rehanie Patel took 2-13 and Mohabir 1-13 for Tri State.
Nicole Samuels showed up her fellow Superstars batters, like Singh, in the second game notching a game high 33 in a meager 67-8 off their allotted 20 overs, batting first in Game Two. In took Tri-State 16 overs to overcome the target, rattling up 72-2. Alexander came good with 28 and Marshall added 18 not out. Achine Perreira claimed both of Tristate’s wickets, ending with 2-11. Prior, Mohabir bagged 3-14 with her off spin to restrict Superstars.
Samuels carved out a match-winning 46 not out to carry Superstars to their lone victory in Match Three as the home team triumphed by eight wickets. Samuels’ unbeaten knock took Superstars to 82-2 off 15.5 overs after Tri-State managed only 78-8 in their 20 overs. Shruti Patel grabbed 2-18 for Superstars as Marshall’s 14 was the visiting team’s top score.
The combination of Alexander’s medium pace and Mohabir’s spin wrecked Superstars in the final game as Tri-State crushed the former team by nine wickets. Alexander notched 3-8 and Mohabir 3-9 as Superstars were routed for 62 in 17.2 overs. Again Samuels proved her class, hitting a game high 40, but her 10 teammates managed an embarrassing 22 among themselves in their lowest total of the series. Samantha Ramotar aided the rout, capturing 2-15. In reply Sandy blasted 36 not out and Marshall 11 not out for Tri-State.
