The Garden State Cricket League 40-Overs 2023 Competition has come to an end with the Final being held at Watsessing Park in Bloomfield, NJ on August 6th.
The cricket gods have blessed the Finals with beautiful weather with many supportive crowds of fans trotting in their delicious food and assortment of drinks. A match up that many have been predicting since the beginning of the season between unbeaten New Jersey Cricket Club (NJCC) and South Hudson.
South Hudson won the toss and elected to field first. Former West Indies Youth Player, Brian Sattaur led from the top as he had all season posting an 82 runs opening partnership with Brandon Mangal before being dismissed for 52 off 48 balls with 1×6 and 7x4s. Brandon steadied the ship before being caught and bowled by Awad Hansraj for 52 off 80 balls with 4×6 and 1x4s.
Trinidad National Player, Marlon Richards walked to the crease at #6 with the score being 159-5 at 30 overs and played a magical innings which will forever be remembered in Garden State Cricket League history. Displaying tremendous power to all sides of the ground finishing with 72 not out off 49 balls with 5×6 and 6x4s. NJCC completed their innings finishing for 241-9 off 40 overs.
NJCC wickets fell at 82,136,152,152,159,166,166,188 and 205.
Trinidad Under 19 Player Nairon Motilal was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 8-1-46-4 at 5.75 per.
South Hudson got off to a flyer with the destructive Quasen Alfred hitting towering shots compiling 51 runs off just 16 balls with 6×6 and 3x4s before being caught by Emanuel Seecharran. Former Trinidad National Player Navin Stewart then turned the game on its head with very smart and experienced bowling claiming the important wicket of Marvin Darlington for a duck.
NJCC fielding was amazing with some spectacular catches. With the run rate climbing to close to 7 runs an over South Hudson was pin backed with wickets falling quickly and was not able to recover. Richard Woolford the dangerous spinner took the breath out of them picking up 3 wickets to go along with 3 catches. Formidably fitting NJCC Captain Anthony Budhu took the last catch to close it off. South Hudson was bowled out for 158-10 off 30.1 overs.
South Hudson wickets fell at 54,74,74,80,93,95,135,149,154 and 158.
Navin Stewart with great figures of 8-2-17-4 at 2.12 per. Richard Woolford 7-0-41-3 at 5.86 per. Emanuel Seecharran 8-1-34-2 at 4.25 per.
NJCC finishes the season going undefeated with a record of 10-0 capturing the Regular Season and Playoff Championship.
