Pandemonium broke out last Saturday, February 19, at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground in Guyana, where New York Titans opening batsman Trevon Griffith representing his local club DCC waltzed his way to a magnificent 300. DCC mauled the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in the Georgetown Cricket Association/GISE/Star Party Rental/Trophy Stall’s two-day, first-division tournament match.

With 21 first-class matches under his belt, Griffith’s triple-century included a legion of boundaries on the relatively small DCC sward to see his club rake up a gigantic 590-4 declared off 69.1 overs. After day one, he had hammered 23 sixes and 24 fours during a scintillating display that had the applauding gathering of spectators on their feet.

It was a historical inning in which he spared no wrath on any of the GCC bowlers. Griffith’s partner Christopher Barnwell was also in prolific form, unleashing a series of boundaries on his way to 175. They shared an impressive partnership that stole the admiration of cricket lovers. Joshua Persaud chipped in with 85. Bowling for GCC, Winston Forrester, and Ronaldo Ali Mohamed had 2 for 114 and 2 for 141, respectively.

The declaration was predictable, and GCC’s appearance at the crease was atrocious, ending the day at 90-8. DCC would only add two runs at the resumption of their inning on day two, closing out their inning at 92, all out in 25.2 overs. Ashmead Nedd 4 for eight off ten overs. Upon resumption of play Sunday, DCC surprisingly did not enforce the follow-on, choosing to bat again. They closed off the proceedings at 105-4 when rain stopped play at the 27 overs mark. A jubilant DCC was declared the Two-Day Title champions based on first-innings points.
