Ramjit Jitlall Smashed A Century
By James Persaud
Ramjit Jitlall scored his first century of the season in the second week of the NYSCL 30 Over Cup competition. Batting against Caribbean Boys in Brooklyn he smashed 11 fours and 5 sixes for an even century. Jitlall opened the innings for Volcano with Shawn Singh who scored 54, but the inning was dominated by the fine batting displayed by Jitlall who smashed the ball to all parts of the ground.
The Volcano captain Shawn won the toss and took the first strike at the crease, he made some changes in his team batting order moving Jitlall from number 5 to his opening partner. The two batted well and took the score to 121 runs by the fifteenth over. When play resumed after the water break Jitlall continues to dominate and reach the century mark in the 19th over. After reaching his century he lost his partner Shawn Singh for 54. The two put on an opening partnership of 156 runs, immediately after without adding to the score Jitlall was caught for an even century.
The partnership probably the highest by an opening pair in softball cricket, Jitlall a good hard hitting batsman who has scored many centuries before but was in a drought after hitting 132 last season. The Caribbean Boys bowlers toiled in the field for most part of the day as Volcano builds a huge score of 263 all out. Jitlall returned with the ball and grabbed two wickets for 13 runs in 3 overs. As he helped restricting Caribbean Boys to a measly 82 runs all out.
