Owen Graham, popularly known as OG, has had a lion’s share in developing cricket in Northern California for more than a decade. Graham migrated to Northern California from his native in Montego Bay, Jamaica in the early 1990s and quickly established himself as one of the premier batsman in Northern California Cricket Association (NCCA). Playing for Caribbean Cricket Club throughout his cricketing career, he played a huge part in his team’s unbeaten run in 1995. Graham finished his career at the end of the 2007 season and is in the top 10 runs scorers list of NCCA with batting average over 50.
Having played cricket at a high level back in Jamaica, Own knew the importance of developing cricket in America had to start at a very young age where the youth would be given sound fundamental training in batting, bowling & fielding. Starting in the year 2002, Graham took keen interest in the region’s junior cricket and most juniors then adults now who have come through the ranks have trained under him. He was instrumental in North West Region’s 2006 and 2009 National U-19 Championships and most of those juniors have now formed the backbones of their respective clubs in NCCA. Graham’s legacy will easily live on for at least a couple decades and even more.
There will be an 8-team T20 tournament hosted at Cougars, NCCA and Santa Clara Club grounds with two groups of 4 teams each. First group will play all of its 4 matches on May 23rd; second group will play 4 matches on May 24th. Semi-Finals and Final will be on May 25th. There will be an Under-13 youth match between CricketZeal and EYCA academies during the break between semi-final and final match at Santa Clara ground.
Graham was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a form of bone cancer in the year 2011 and has been undergoing various forms of treatments since, including but not limited to Chemotherapy, Blood transfusion etc. We as cricket citizens have been blessed with plenty of resources here in the Silicon Valley and it is our duty in helping Owen out in bearing some of the treatment costs and is our humble request to you to donate generously for the cause.
