Philadelphia International Cricket Festival Kicks Off May 2

2013 Annual Festival
The Philadelphia International Cricket Festival invites you to experience the timeless Game of Cricket. Over 150 players from 14 different nationalities partake in this premiere Philadelphia Spring Event. Thanks to the generosity of the participants and event sponsors, charitable support of local Youth Development programs is possible.

Members of the public are invited to join in the festivities on Sunday May 5th  starting around noon for the Event Final being staged at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. A celebrity guest (to be announced) will be in attendance at the 2013 Event.

Second only to soccer, Cricket is the most widely played and watched sport in the world with close to a billion followers. Philadelphia was at the heart of American Cricket during the second half of the nineteenth century and remains a dominant force to this day. The first recorded Cricket Club in the United States was founded at the picturesque campus of Haverford College in 1834. Cricket still thrives at Haverford College both on the field at Cope and off the field at the US Cricket Museum at the C.C. Morris Cricket Library.

Throughout the United States, cricketing leagues have expanded significantly and now boast strong presences in all 50 states. The extremely successful India Professional League (IPL) featuring cricketing superstars from around the world has a very large following in the United States both on TV coverage and the Internet.

Organizer Tom Culp remarked that “In 2013, fans will enjoy an afternoon of top class skills and competition while non-cricketing sports enthusiasts can learn about the art of the game”.
