Philly Machanz Crowned Inaugural NYMA CUP Championship
The 1st edition of New York Malayali Association (NYMA) Cup Championship took place at Cunningham Park, Queens, NY on May 21st.
The inaugural tennis ball cricket tournament, played in the super 8 format saw 8 mighty teams from the NY tri-state region battling for bragging rights. The action-packed tournament was enjoyed by a sizable crowd. In the final match, Philly Machanz came out victorious against Bergen Tigers in a nail bighting game and was crowned the champions. Batting first Philly Machanz scored 84 runs in the allotted 8 overs.
In reply Bergen Tigers could score only 81 runs. Arun Gireesh was named Man of the Match in the Finals. Denny Chacko from Philly Machanz and Thomas Paul from Bergen Tigers were selected as the Best Batsman and Best Bowler of tournament respectively.
The NYMA Cup Championship was conducted in the super 8 format with eight teams, eight players per team and eight overs per side. In a glittery presentation ceremony, New York State Honorable Senator Kevin Thomas gave away champions and runners up trophies to the teams. Tournament grand sponsors Raj Autos Rajesh Pushparajan and George Kottaram from Laffey Realty gave away prize money checks to teams. Benny John and Sany Joseph, sports personalities, gold medalist in Asian Games inaugurated the event.
President Lagi Thomas, Secretary Sibu Jacob and Treasurer George Kottaram thanked everyone on behalf of New York Malayali Association (NYMA) for supporting and helping to make the event a grand success.
Tournament coordinators Mathew Joshua, Jins Joseph, Joel Scaria, Don Thomas, Melvin Mammen, Christo Abraham, Jopies Alex, Jerry George, Deepu Parachalil, Johnsy Thomas and Liju john declared the event a grand success and thanked the participating teams, sponsors and the fans for all the support for this event.
