With the forecast predicting thunderstorm in the afternoon the Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) boys won the toss and decided to bat first on a heavy Riis Park outfield. Azurdeen Mohammed and Ken Nandkumar opened batting for the MMZ boys.
MMZ lost Nandkumar for one in the 3rd over, Mohmmed was joined by the reliable Deonauth Baksh. The pair batted well through some good bowling from the Atlantis bowlers Jason Greeves and D. Hurly. The Captain for the Atlantis team Prashant Nair brought on Hugo O’lievera and immediately he removed Mohammed with a good Yorker for 24 and Trevis Ross for a first ball duck. The young Clifford Hamilton joined Baksh and did not last too long he was out caught off the bowling of Nair.
Amarnauth Persaud came in and looks good before he ran himself out attempting a single that wasn’t there. With the score in the 70s Zaaid Majeed came in and together with Baksh put on a partnership of over 60 in quick time. Majeed played some glorious shots for a well played 38. Baksh on the other hand was batting intelligently and brings up his fifty with a pull through mid wicket for four. He was out trying to cut for a well played 64. With some late hitting from Rocky Kowchai MMZ posted a challenging total of 186 off 40 overs, Rocky Kowhai was left not out on 17.
Just as the weather man predicted severe thunder storms after 4 pm. The umpires were on their way out to the middle when the sky opens up. The MMZ team scrambled to the middle with the covers trying to hold the covers down but with the winds gusting over 40 miles an hour with heavy rain, hail and thunder howling over these guys it was just an incredible site, tables, chairs ,cooler, tents were flying all over the park.
The umpires had no hesitation but called it a day.
This semi finals game between MMZ and Atlantis is reschedule for next Sunday.
