Team Red.

Cricket and friendship. That’s what it’s all about. A bunch of friends that play for different teams in the tri-state region decided to get together last weekend for a game of cricket. What followed was an exhilarating cricket match. Team Red, led by Justin Joseph defeated Team Blue, led by Anish Kallurathu by eight wickets.

After winning the toss, Team Blue opted to bat first. They kept losing wickets amid tight bowling by the Red bowlers. Opening bowlers Justin and Hari Krishnan bowled miserly and kept picking up wickets at regular intervals. Blue’s scoring rate picked up with the arrival of Arun John-Thomas. He got off the mark with a boundary and followed it up with a flurry of boundaries. Arun was out for a quick-fire 21, nicking Jijo behind the wicket.

Blue batsmen couldn’t up the ante as the wickets kept tumbling. Thanks to some late resistance from Christy Joseph, who scored a quick-fire 35, and Rojis Philip, Team Blue was able to put up a competitive total of 152 in the allotted 25 overs. Hari was the pick of the bowlers for Team Red, as he picked up 3 wickets for 20 runs in 5 overs.

Team Blue

Team Red’s chase started off at a snail’s pace. In the first seven overs, which was the batting Power-play, Team Red could only muster up 14 runs for the loss of two wickets. The run rate picked up dramatically with the arrival of Noble Thomas, joining opener Sarun Zacharia.

Noble and Sarun ripped apart Team Blue’s bowling attack and finished off the game with four overs to spare. Noble ended up with 76 (off of 55 deliveries) not out, and Sarun contributed 35 (off 40 deliveries), and also not out. Team Red won the match by 8 wickets in 21 overs.
