This Friday night, August 12, 2016 sports enthusiasts, particularly those with a bias toward cricket will have a rare opportunity to hear and interact with the dynamic Caribbean broadcasting luminary Joseph “Reds” Perreira, at the Royal Empress Hall at 122-01 Rockaway Boulevard, South Ozone Park, Queens, NY. The event titled ‘Gaffin Cricket Wid Reds” starts at 7:30 PM and is hosted by Atlantis Cricket Club – NY in conjunction with the Indo-Caribbean Federation.
Reds Perreira is a household name among Caribbean sports enthusiasts of the 60s through the 90s. The well-known Caribbean broadcaster and journalist has championed the cause of sportsmen and fans alike, and comes to New York as part of Atlantis’ 50th anniversary celebrations, and on the eve of the Indo Caribbean Federation’s 26th Annual Cricket Match, featuring a representative Guyana XI against an Invitational Caribbean XI at Baisley Pond Park on Saturday, August 13.
Known for his inimitable style of delivery bordering on a rhythmic stammer, but eloquent nonetheless, the voice of Caribbean cricket, boxing, soccer, and any other sport requiring a commentary and a voice of descriptive prose; Reds has dedicated more than 50 years to his passion for painting pictures with words. Reds, as he is familiarly known, is not a graduate of any prestigious broadcasting institution. He is for the most part a self-made voice from humble beginnings in the Pomeroon district of Guyana.
“Gaffin Cricket Wid Reds Perreira” is reminiscent of the gatherings around local watering holes in the Caribbean, where pundits and purists of the sport of cricket would gather to share the most recent observations on current and past cricketers and the sport, in general.
Reds is a treasure trove of anecdotes, historical facts and limitless observations, having toured with the West Indies teams in the Caribbean and around the globe. He will field questions from the audience, and no doubt will comment on the recent successes and failures of West Indies cricket.
Also making an appearance on stage will be 8-year old Matthew Achaibar, a broadcasting protégé of cricket and soccer, and who does impersonations of Danny Morrison, Geoff Boycott, Ravi Shashtri and Michael Holding.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to interact with one of the Caribbean’s best and author of “Living My Dreams” Joseph “Reds” Perreira. Admission to the event is only $10. and includes dinner. There will be a cash bar.
The event is made possible through the kind courtesy of the Rockaway Group of Companies sponsors of the 2016 Rockaway T20 New York Cricket Fiesta.
