Spice Island Cricket Club gained a walk-over from Pioneer Cricket Club.

Richard Allen struck a blistering 172 off 84 balls with 19x6s and 3/4s.

Westbury Cricket Club vs. Staten Island Cricket Club
Westbury Cricket Club won by 212 runs. Scores: Westbury 346/6 and Staten Island 134 All Out.

Batting first, Westbury piled on the runs posting a massive 346 off 30 overs, with opener Richard Allen recording 172 off 84 balls with 19x6s and 3/4s. The other six batters who made it to the middle scored double figures between 13 and 36, with Carlos Green chipping in six not out. Extras contributed 31.

Facing an uphill battle Staten Island was left stranded on an island 134 miles long and 10 wickets wide in 26.4 overs. Top scorer was Salim Khan, 50 off 32 (3x6s, 5x4s). Ryan Bennett and Nickles Williams each snatched four Staten Island wickets.

Sheffield Cricket Club vs. Atlantis Cricket Club – NY
Sheffield Cricket Club won by 4 wickets. – Scores: Atlantis 120/10 – Sheffield 121/6
Winning the toss Atlantis took the first strike and posted 120 mainly off the bats of its two overseas players Ronaldo Ali Mohammad’s 36 and Kellon Carmichael’s 20. The Atlantis inning lasted 28.1 overs. Muhammad Baja had 3 for 45, overseas player Jason Dawes 2/13, and Abdur Rehman 2/11 were the principal wicket-takers.

In defending 120, Atlantis’ bowlers could not contain the Sheffield batters, allowing them to reach the targeted 121 in 25 overs for the loss of six wickets. Ali Nawaz Shah and Darius Gopaul, each with 33, were the top scorers. Atlantis’ overseas player Kellon Carmichael with 2 for 24, was the most successful of the bowlers.

Although the day’s match was part of a Metro League’s 2022 season fixture, the two teams were competing for the annual Andrew “Monster” Lyght Memorial Trophy. The annual side-action match-up is in memory of one of Guyana’s most promising cricketers, who represented the Demerara Cricket Club before dying at a much too young age. Sheffield has now won the cup twice, while Atlantis has won it just once.


Lucas Cricket Club vs. Suburbia Sports Club

Lucas won the toss and opted to take the first strike. They posted 203 in 37.2 overs and lost nine wickets along the way. Two recent additions Dorrel Evelyn, 47, not out, and Hugo D’Oliveira, 47, along with Kiron Thomas, 34, were the main contributors. Veteran player Cuthbert Mendonca took 4 for 40 off 8 overs.

In looking for a win, Suburbia pursued the 204 target diligently but fell short of the victory by just two runs at 202 in 38.4 overs. Mendonca matched his success with the ball, scoring 62 (1×6, 4x4s). He was supported in the effort by Roystan Trocard, 29, and Towan Henry, 27. However, it would not be enough, as Lucas’ Naiburn Whittiker 3/19 and skipper Rodwell Busgith 3/33 denied Suburbia the W.


Villagers Sports Club vs. Queens United Sports Club
Villagers Sports Club won by 28 runs – Scores: Villagers 169 all-out – Queens United 141 all-out.

Batting first, Villagers Sports Club posted 169 all out in 34.3 overs. Overseas player Tristan Coleman with 36 and Gajanan Suknanan, also contributing 36, were the top scorers. Gavin Brown, an overseas player, was the most successful Queens United bowler grabbing 4 for 28.

In response and needing 170 for the W, Queens United got to the 141-mile marker and ran out of gas, with Marinaro Dixon going the furthermost with 28, skipper Richard Staple, 26, and Kennel Hurd, another overseas player contributing 25. The principal scalpers were bowling for Villagers, Gajanan Suknanan 2/5 and Jermaine Lawson 2/19.
