An all-round performance by talented opening batsman Keddy Lesporis steered Rising Star Cricket Club to a convincing 100-runs victory against Long Island United in the first round of the EACA Twenty/20 competition. Lesporis continues to show why he’s the ideal “role model” for the youths of Rising Star CC. “Keddy brings a lot of energy to the team, and it makes me want to do well as an opening batsman” stated Richard Rampersad.
Rising Star won the toss, and elected to take first strike @ Jacob Riis’s Park.
The opening pair of Keddy Lesporis, and former NYR Under-19 opening batsman, Leikram Latchman took the attack to the Long Island United bowlers.
The two put on a partnership of 74 runs in seven overs, before Latchman was caught off the bowling of Wajid. After adding twelve runs to the total, Rising Star lost its second wicket of Keddy Lesporis for a well played 57, but it was Richard Rampersad, and one of NYR talented Under-19 all-rounder, Jazeb Tariq who added a hundred runs partnership before the inning closed on a massive total of 199/4 after 20 overs. Rampersad fell three short of his half-century, while Tariq fell four short of his half-century.
Long Island United was off to a good start with some aggressive batting from Selvin, who scored 18, and Asem who made 29. The Long Island United batsmen were all looking to take quick singles, but Keddy Lesporis shows why he is called Mr. “Point Budday”.
Lesporis was involved in seven dismissals in which he accounted for four run-outs, and three catches. Abrar Zafar would finish with match bowling figures of 2/8, while Dass, Tariq, and Kissoon picked up one wicket each.
