Savan Patel Guides Berbice Royals To Victory With An Unbeaten 190
By Mark Audain
Savan Patel is a tall, elegant, and stylish left-handed batsman from Parsippany, New Jersey and plays for Somerset Cavaliers in the Millennium Cricket League and Berbice Royals in the Garden State Cricket League. Both leagues are in the state of New Jersey, and Patel has always demonstrated a tremendous ability and is an excellent batsman, with aspirations of representing Team USA.
On August 11 last, while representing Berbice Royals Patel produced a masterclass knock of 190 not out against the power-house Wanderers, Garden State Cricket League Division One champions and one of the best bowling attacks in the league. The large crowd on hand saw some classic stroke play, as well as some power-hitting, with shots dispatched to all areas of the field. The batsman struck 22 boundaries and seven maximums in his inning.
Wanderers batted first and posted 274 for four wickets, with Jason Nelson hitting a magnificent 102, Saiteja Mukkummalla, 83, and David Lewis, 48. Berbice Royals overhauled the total with 278 for five from 36.2 overs. Savan Patel playing brilliantly, took the responsibility into his own hands and produced a very special 190 not out. Excellent support came from Ved Churiwalla with 26, and Captain Andre Kirton with 15, giving Berbice Royals the victory by five wickets.
