Sewdial Hits 2nd EACA Ton As Everest/ACS Punishes Liberty SC

Liberty Sports Club suffered it’s second consecutive loss in the Eastern American Cricket Association’s Division A round robin play when former United States Under 19 captain Greg Sewdial hammered a magnificent 138 for Everest/ACS on Sunday, July 15 at Flushing Park.

The 2011 regular season champions, E/ACS, were asked to bat first on quick outfield and in conditions perfect for batting but lost their openers fairly cheaply as Liberty SC’s call on the toss seemed to be paying dividends. This would all change when Sewdial got to the crease, however. The aggressive 20 year old played cautiously to this first 50 runs then turned up the tempo once he got comfortable at the crease.

The right hander eventually got out when he was run out by a Terrence Madramootoo direct hit which cleaned up a drop catch by the LSC wicket keeper, Bose Persaud. Sewdial found support from his captain, Karan Ganesh, who scored 40.

Liberty SC did well to pick up 7 more wickets in the last 10 overs but this was at the expense of 100 runs. Thakur Singh led the way with 3 wickets for LSC as Everest/ACS posted 289 off their 40 overs.

On a typical outfield the 289 would be out of reach but given the slightly smaller Flushing playing are and the dry quick outfield Liberty SC felt confident in being able to challenge the the total. Openers Danesh Deonarain and Dilly Khilawan did exactly that. The duo got LSC off to a blazing start in the first 5 overs. The pair went on to put up 68 for the first wicket when Deonarain fell for 34 in the 9th over.

Deonarain’s wicket would trigger a mini collapse which saw Dilly Khilawan (19) and Bose Persaud (0) follow in quick succession. Madramootoo joined skipper Micheal Noble at the crease that the pair looked to settle on a partnership. The two would take the score to 120 before Madramootoo held out to deep extra cover for 31. Imtiaz Hassan joined Noble and once again another hint of a steady partnership ended in disaster as Noble, trying to force a second run, was left stranded in a communication mess up. Hassan would go on to top score with 44 in the LSC inning but he himself fell to a poor running mixup.

In all LSC only managed 193 before being bowled out with 9 overs still on the board.

The loss is LSC’s 2nd in their 2 games in the Division A EACA format. LSC stumbled by 18 runs in chasing 172 against Long Island United CC the previous week at Brentwood II.

Everest/ACS is now 1-1 having lost their first game to Big Apple CC.
