The Roy Sweeney Cricket Oval in Brooklyn, NY, was the less than epic battle center, as Sheffield Cricket Club empowered a shell-shocking over Atlantis Cricket Club – NY last Sunday, July 10, 2022.
Sheffield featured its recently promoted ‘military commanders’ Trevon Griffith, Christopher Barnwell, and Asad Fuddadin in a blitz of the boys in green, posting 185 for 8 in their 20 overs, as the top and middle order contributed to the total. Darius Gopaul, 34, Christopher Barnwell, 32, supported by their skipper Akeem Dodson, 22, brother Ahmad Dodson, 21, and Trevon Griffith, 20, joined Extras, 19, in the double-digit postings. A total of ten maximums and 14 boundaries tells the bombardment story of the Sheffield batters.
Atlantis’ bowling attack included POWs; sorry, wickets captured by its six bowlers in its defense. Overseas registrant Ronaldo Ali Mohamed had figures of 3-0-31-2. Seth Maugh was the most economical, with figures of 4-0-19-1. The Sheffield wickets fell at 24, 25, 77, 112, 144, 149, 171, and 183.
In its attempt to mount an assertive assault in response, Atlantis could only muster 81 all out as the firepower of its artillery could not reach its target of 186 and the victory it so badly sought. Overseas registrant Kellon Carmichael, 20 (2x6s, 1×4), was the most successful warrior for Atlantis. Carmichael’s contribution was supported by his skipper Greg Robinson, 17 (2x6s) in a last-ditch effort to salvage the Atlantis inning. Garfield DeRoche, 13, was the only other Atlantis soldier who battled to reach double-digits, as Atlantis surrendered at 81 at the 17.3 overs mark.
Trevon Griffith 2-0-18-3 and Asad Fuddadin 4-0-24-2 were the most successful in the bowling arena. Raj Nanand was the most economical with figures of 3-1-5-1 and an economy rate of 1.67. The Atlantis wickets fell at 4, 11, 13, 31, 39, 50, 57, 57, 72, and 81.
Atlantis takes on Villagers Sports Club this Sunday at the same venue at 3:00 pm.
Player-of-the-Match: Trevon Griffith
