Worldwide Cricket Academy
Miramar, Florida, July 7 – The Worldwide Cricket Academy (WWCA) Elite Women’s Program hosted its second camp for women cricketers who attended the program’s open camp earlier in March led by Coach Robin Singh. Last weekend’s camp was led by the powerful duo of Stephanie Power, former West Indies Women Assistant Coach, and West Indies star all-rounder, Stafanie Taylor.

Players from around the country gathered in Queens, New York to play a series of game scenarios to aid the development of tactical approaches to the game. One of the weekend’s highlights was the talent and enthusiasm of three teenagers. Another weekend highlight was Taylor’s participation. She demonstrated alternative cricket games to help develop skills, played alongside the women, and helped players to read the game and adjust field settings.
Taylor enjoyed the camp. “The camp was a great experience for me and I enjoyed working with the women and Stephanie Power. I see talent in the ladies and I’m impressed with the youngsters but with greater support, they can be better,” said Taylor.
Coach Power believes that “Stafanie Taylor’s presence here was a high point for the players I am sure. Although she did not bat much, there were many important lessons that could have been taken from her performance,” said Power.
Power, a former West Indies women’s cricket captain also wishes to see the USA women compete on an international stage. “It’s such a pity that the world is deprived of seeing the talent that abounds in the USA. I have seen such a high level of cricket over the weekend that I hope the impasse with the powers that be ends soon. Such talent and enthusiasm for the game should once again be allowed to be showcased,” said Power.
Until such international competition resumes for the US women, WWCA President Ricky Toolsie continues to support the development of the women cricketers. Toolsie said, “This type of development and learning environment is hardest to come by because the women live thousands of miles apart and they only come together for one or two tournaments per year where the focus is just on winning and not really on development. Unfortunately, we cannot do this more often but hopefully the exposure and interaction with Coach Stef and Stafanie will help them to think about the game in ways they have not before.”
