Rolling back the years is a popular cliché in cricket, which is why the Baisley Pond Park ground will be the venue to be this Saturday (August 13th).

Some of Guyana’s best players of the 1980s – the last period of excellence for the country in Regional West Indies cricket, will grace the stage at Baisley for the long awaited Friends of Former Guyana Cricketers exhibition game.
The likes of Sew Shivnarine, Sydney Matthews, Ray Joseph, Derrick Kallicharan and Tyrone Etwaroo will spearhead the Friends of Former Guyana Cricketers (FFGC) team which will go up against some of the best upcoming stars in New York in a mouth-watering Twenty20 clash.
Kamal Singh, Amarnauth Ramcharitar, William Whyte and Selwyn Smith will also be in the spotlight for the FFGC squad along with Cuthbert Mendonca, Nigel Harper and Jerry Persaud.
Kevin Darlington, a star of the 1990s will add dynamism to the FFGC side along with another big name from the 2000s Vishal Nagamootoo. Wesley King, a Barbadian of no mean repute in his day, will give international flavor.
Leslaine Lambert and Milton Pydanna, two other heavyweights of the 1980s were down to take their places in the squad but are unavailable due to illness.

Such an array of talent will intimidate most New York teams, but the young stars have the advantage of youth and capitalize on it in the anticipated showdown. The squad is being led by Randall Wilson and comprises Zahid Tariq, Javed Tariq, Wakas Shaw, Troy Mars, Brandon Dat, Rayon Persaud, Mario Persaud, Chris Singh, Abdool Waddood, Imran Nagiarmann, Zaffar Yusuff, Keshan Das and Mike Katwarro.
After the game the FFGC raffle will be drawn and the lucky winners will take home a return airline ticket to Guyana for first prize along with an autographed bat, a television set and a microwave over as second, third and fourth prizes respective.
The game will start at 12 noon.
