Superb Baksh And Islam Helps Meten-Meer-Zorg Win Double Header

It was a day filled with different sports activities at Flushing Meadows Park from the US Open, Mets game, soccer being played at every corner possible and of course cricket, Flushing Park was indeed the place to be.

Rayhanul Islam had 4 for 17 against East Side Warriors.

MMZ played a double header in lovely condition at the Flushing Park and won both their games.

First game MMZ took East Side Warriors (ESW), where the MMZ boys won by 8 wickets.

ESW won the toss and decided to bat first in glorious sunshine; it was Sabeeh Rafeek and Faisal Ahmed to open the batting for ESW. MMZ captain Ajaz Asgarally as usual opened the bowling with inform 19 year old Rayhanul Islam and NYR under 19 players Rocky Kowchai. Islam started off being greeted by a superb blow first ball for six by Rafeek.

However with Islam getting the ball to swing away, Rafeek tried to go over to Auther Ash Stadium for the second time just managed to spoon a simple catch to Deonauth Baksh who juggled it to finally cling on to it after four attempts. Faisal was comprehensively bowled by Islam for 7 then Ayatulla was out caught off Islam for a duck. Ahson Qadeer was the only batsman that showed some resistance with a well played 33. It was tidy bowling from MMZ that saw ESW managed only 102 all out off 19.5 overs.

Bowling for MMZ: R. Islam 4-0-17-4, R. Kowchai 4-0-9-0, H. Ramdihal 4-0-30-3, A. Persaud 4-0-7-2 and Zaaid Majeed 3.5 -0-19-2.

Meten –Meer-Zorg sent out the hard hitting Ken Nandkumar and the stylish Glenn Meyer to start off their innings. The pair batted well to bring up the 50 in the 8th over before Meyer was bowled for 13, Nandkumar was joined by Mr. “DEPENDABLE” Deonauth Baksh and the pair played well with Nandkumar the “Aggressor” and Baksh in his own calmness took the score in the 90s. Nandkumar went for a big heave and was out stumped for a well played 43. Rocky Kowchai joined Baksh and the pair sends MMZ to victory, Baksh was left not out on 17 and Kowchai 8.

Final scores: ESW 102 all out off 19.5 overs, MMZ 104 for 2 off 15.2 overs

In the second game MMZ won the toss and without hesitation decided to bat first. MMZ rested, Nandkumar and Trevis Ross bringing in their line up the hard hitting Fiaz Asgarally and the aggressive Kieth Mungalsing.  These two players were anxiously waiting for the opportunity to showcase their talent. It was Fiaz Asgarally and the stylish Glenn Meyer to open the batting for the MMZ boys. Asgarally played well, hitting some glorious shot across the beautiful Flushing outfield for his 20 before he was out. In walked to the crease, Deonauth Baksh who batted brilliantly hitting the ball to the boundary with great timing.

Glenn Meyer was out caught for 15; Baksh was then joined by Amarnauth Persaud. The pair batted superbly to see MMZ getting to the 100 mark in the twelfth over. Baksh brought up his 50 with a glorious on drive for four, Baksh looking set to register the first century played a loose shot and was out stumped for a well played 83 at that stage MMZ were 150 for 3 off 17 overs. Persaud was batting well and was on 43 when he retired to give Keith Mungalsingh a chance at the crease.  Islam and Mungalsingh did not let their team down they played some fine shots to help MMZ reach 186 for 3 off their 20 overs

All Star started off aggressively at their turn in the crease, however with some great bowling by Hemindra Ramdiahal 3 for 19, Rocky Kowchai 2 for 19, Islam 1 for 28 and Zaaid Majeed 1 for 22, restrict All Star to 140.  Saleah Ahmed 35 and Fahim 18 were the only batsmen to show any resistance to the MMZ bowlers.

Final scores: MMZ 186 for 3 off 20 overs, All Star 140 all out off 20 overs.

With the return of MMZ skipper Azurdeen Mohammed from Malaysia the MMZ boys will be hoping to reach the final for the third consecutive year.
